Choosing the best domain name is a great deal of investment in your business. This is why I have written this article to educate my clients on how to make the best choices in terms of buying domain names.

Points to Note When Choosing The Best Domain Name

Choose a name which is as short as possible

People have not got enough time typing long domain names. Imagine Mark Zuckerberg naming his social networking site as instead of, he wouldn’t have been earning the billions of dollars he’s earning now just because of the best domain name he chose years back.

Choose a Domain Name which is Simple and Easier to Remember.

Some sounds have the ability to stay in people’s minds wherever they go. Others do not. I chose (a new social and photo sharing site) for a friend because of the way the word sounds. If you’re in Ghana, you’ll notice how popular the term “kpakpakpa got, and imagine how popular your website will be if you purchase a domain by that name. And to my uttermost surprise after googling it, someone was wise enough to purchase it. Even as the site is under construction, the facebook page linked to the site has thousands of visitors. Haha! they don’t care about whichever content that may appear on the site; all they care for is the name “kpakpakpa” only. Can you imagine?

Choose a Domain Name that Relates to your business name

After putting the first two points into consideration, the last and most important thing to do is to choose a domain name that you derived from the name of your business. Very soon after your website has been launched, customers will begin to land on your website using your business name on Google. One advice I’ll even give you is that you purchase your domain name before naming your business. This will help to prevent others from owning your business name online.

Importance of Choosing The Best Domain Name

  1. As earlier said, choosing your brand or business name prevents losing your potential customers who may search using your company name.
  2. Choosing the best domain name helps you to get more visitors especially when the name is short and sounds good to the ear.
  3. It makes typing of your name simple when you choose names that are short.
  4. Note, don’t choose names that have hyphens, and other symbols, unless it’s only a separator just like You can imagine how weird it’ll be in typing without the hyphen.

Choosing A TLD For Your Best Domain Name

After making your domain name choice, the next thing is to determine which TLD to go for. The TLD is the letters immediately following the final dot in an Internet address. For instance .com, .org, or .net. A TLD identifies something about the website associated with it, such as its purpose, the organization that owns it or the geographical area where it originates. If you are skeptical in deciding which TLD to go for, read this article I wrote on For Dot Com, Dot Org, or Dot Net.
